I hope everyone was safe during our days off from the storm. I wanted to take a moment to give you some information about the Beginning of Grade Test. All 3rd graders will take the BOG next week. This assessment is just to inform us where your child is currently working in reading. The BOG is an online reading assessment where students will read several different passages and answer multiple choice questions for each. The test is currently scheduled for Tuesday, September 17th. On the morning of the BOG, we will begin promptly at 9:30am. Students will go to specials in the afternoon rather than the morning. Students will test for 90 minutes in the classroom. Additional time will be given if needed. Cell phones, tablets, smart watches, and other technology are not allowed in the classroom during the test. It would be great if you could have your child leave these items at home on the day of the BOG! Students are allowed to bring in a water bottle to keep under their chair. Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions about the BOG and I will answer them to the best of my ability! I also wanted to touch base with you all about the 3rd grade monthly homework. Students can keep this packet at home and return the completed assignments to school on September 30th. Each month they will receive a new packet, but it will follow a similar template (research reading with four prompts, a reading calendar, and math practice). Students will need to complete at least 4 nights of research reading in order to complete their four prompts. On on this website there are several online articles that would be perfect for research reading (Go to ELA and then click "Module 1" in the drop down menu). If you would prefer your child bring home a physical book, I can lend them a research reading book, but NEED it to be returned. All other nights can be books of their choice. The goal is to get students reading for at least 20 minutes, at least 20 days of the month! Make sure to initial each day that students read on the reading calendar that is included in the packet. We hope that this model will ease some stress that homework can bring. We know you are all busy with extracurricular activities and family time and do not want homework to feel like a chore. Lastly, please be sure you've joined our Class DOJO. I will use DOJO as my main form of communication. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your ongoing support! Hello!
We had a wonderful first week of school, and I'm looking forward to the rest of this year! Please check out the website and make sure you've joined our class DOJO. I use DOJO as my main form of communication, but I will respond to email as well. I'm going to attempt to add class photos on here regularly, but I also post a lot to the class story on DOJO. If you have any questions for me never hesitate to ask. |
